About the Owner
My name is Sean Song and I am the founder of Translation Boulevard. I graduated from the Communication University of China with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, from the London School of Economics with an MSc in Globalization and Communication, and from the University of Southern California with an MA in Global Communication. During my past fifteen years of working in the translation field, I have built great relationships with a network of high-quality translators who speak many different languages. Our Washington DC translation service is ready to assist our clients with high quality translation work.
Sean Song is an ATA certified Chinese Translator
Sean Song, President of Translation Boulevard, is a seasoned Chinese translator. Originally from China, he now lives in the DC metro area.
Sean recently passed the English-to-Chinese certification offered by American Translators Association (ATA). The ATA is the largest professional association of translators and interpreters in the U.S., featuring over 10,000 members in more than 100 countries. Sean passed the exam and was certified by the ATA in August 2018.
Being certified by the ATA is not an easy accomplishment. According to The ATA Chronicle, the official ATA newsletter, “For 2004-2014, the overall pass rate was 15.45%. And for 2004-2014, the pass rate for English to Chinese is 13.41%.” Sean’s skills exceeded those of 85% of people who took the exam but did not pass.
Sean Song has been a subtitle translator for over 15 years and has translated thousands of movies and TV dramas from English to Chinese and vice versa. His translation projects include programs from major Hollywood studios and some of the top streaming services in the US. He has translated over 15 million words for a leading hotel booking website. Sean is also experienced in localization and other translation-related areas.
In 2017, Sean became a member of the ATA. After joining the organization, Sean quickly realized it was very beneficial to pursue certification.
He recognized that it was not imperative for him to become certified, since there are many qualified translators who may not be ATA certified. As the ATA website says, “Are translators without ATA certification ‘bad’? Not at all! In some cases, there is no certification exam available in the individual’s language combination. And often the translator is well-established and does not need the additional confirmation of skills.”
However, Sean felt ATA certification would increase his credibility with potential clients. Many clients have a difficult time finding qualified Chinese translators, and they struggle to trust them when they do. In a world where it is difficult to establish trust in a short amount of time, an ATA certification would speed up the process. By taking this step and becoming certified, Sean believed that he would have an easier time establishing trust with new clients.
In addition, Sean greatly values the reviews and recommendations from his current and longtime clients. He enjoys building trusting relationships with clients, and frequently networks with like-minded translators. Sean Song’s Ministry Work
Sean Song also runs a 501 C3 non-profit organization, Jairus Bible World Ministries. He received the Lord in 2002 in the Local Church Movement. His wife Ruth received the Lord in 2003 and they got married in 2006. They were both born in China and came to the United States for graduate studies. Sean has completed the Christian Healing Certification Program (CHCP) and Christian Prophetic Certification Program through Global Awakening. He also received his Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary. Randy Clark Scholars is a joint program between UTS and Global Awakening. He has been an ordained minister through Global Awakening since 2024.
